The Nexus
Intention:
My intention with this album was to create something that was both “harder” and
“darker” sounding than The Assessment, but also include some textures and
soundscapes for balance. I had aquired the “synthetic drums” from Native
Instruments and these kits had the perfect sound – electronic, effected and
contemporary – that I was looking for.
Realisation:
Quite a challenging project, this one…the synthetic drums provided the bedrock
for most of the tunes, but the challenge was to create textures that
complimented them and to arrange the tunes so that they weren’t over busy or too
full. The three soundscapes were relatively easy to do and were inspired by
sounds created on my Eventide H3000. Overall, I’m pleased with the textures I
managed to create on this album and I think I realised my intention!
Favourite tunes:
Another World and We Dream of Ancient Spires stand out for me as distillations
of my style and I also like the atonality of System Cycle.
